Official Meaning of Valborg....

  • The English name is Walpurgis Night and it is celebrated on the 30th April, especially in Northern Europe
  • It has pre-christian origins. People used to set up bonfires to keep the evil spirits away. This custom is still preserved and nowadays people lit fires in the center of cities of villages
  • In the past, this was the day when the Vikings were celebrating the biginning of the spring
  • Modern Valborg celebrations, particularly in Uppsala, consist of having a light breakfast including champagne and strawberries
  • During the day people gather in parks, drink, sing spring songs, dance or just have fun in any possible way
